Vitamin D “The Un-Sung Hero”

Vitamin D is the most under-appreciated and misunderstood health secret. If there were a single nutrient that would help ward off heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, dementia, influenza, depression, insomnia, fibromyalgia, arthritis, osteoporosis, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis and hypertension what would it be? It would be Vitamin D. Stop and consider the implications of a few minutes each day spent in bright sun or taking a Vitamin D supplement. It can harness nature’s powers to significantly reduce our risk of dying from virtually all of the major killers today.
More than 2,500 studies published confirm Vitamin D’s roll in prevention of cancer. Vitamin D may be the single most effective means of cancer prevention, even out pacing the benefit of a healthy diet!

WATER “The Missing Link”

Water makes up more than two-thirds of the weight of the human body, and without it, a body would die in just a few days time. The human brain is 85 percent water; blood is 82 percent and our lungs are made up of 90 percent water. A mere two percent drop in our body’s water supply can trigger early signs of dehydration, including fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math and difficulty focusing on small print.

We simply take water for granted. Dehydration can be the primary reason for joint pain, indigestion, insomnia and headaches, while mild dehydration is the most common cause of daytime fatigue. If you feel thirsty, it’s too late; you are already dehydrated. An estimated 75 percent of Americans go through their days in a state of mild, chronic dehydration. It’s a scary statistic for a developed country, where water is readily available.

106,000 Americans die annually from prescription drugs

More than 60 percent of all people who are prescribed pharmaceutical drugs end up with a drug-related problem, which results in almost nine million hospital admissions per year at an estimated cost of $47.4 billion. According to a groundbreaking 2003 report, 106,000 Americans die annually from prescription drugs, a number considered by many to be very conservative. Read the rest of this entry »

Better Night’s Sleep prt2 “When Counts”

Unfortunately we were never told about the importance of sleeping during the right hours, how many hours per night, and never eat dinner just prior.

Between the hours of 8PM and Midnight is when our bodies will have best ability to reach true R.E.M. (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. This is when our body is in a dream state, relaxed, and most capable of recovering from the rigors of our hectic lives. Many studies have proven that college students who slept between those hours had higher retention of material than those who pulled “all niters”, likewise the least productive work force are the “Swing Shift” 3PM to 11PM. An individual’s daily sleep is determined by their metabolism, daily stress, and physical condition. Read the rest of this entry »

Why Diets Fail – prt2

There are three reasons why diets fail.

The first I call The Quick-Fix Diet, where dieters often drastically restrict their calories or food choices for a while, but return to their old habits once they reach their weight-loss goal. The second problem – The Off-Balance Approach – are fad dieters who focus on specific types of foods or nutrients, and disregard the importance of everything else, which leads to unbalanced nutrition. Muscle Balance

When we eat, drive and work on our computer, we sit and lean forward. When we do activities like biking or skiing, we flex forward. As a result, we use our flexor muscles twice as much as our extensor muscles. While both attach to separate sides of the joint structures, we have an increased propensity to pull the joint toward the stronger side. In the end, this muscle imbalance can lead to chronic misery – those ongoing aches and pains that steal from our general health and overall quality of life.
There is a solution. Read the rest of this entry »
